Workplace pensions administrator/consultant apprenticeship

The Workplace pensions administrator/consultant apprenticeship covers two roles that provide information in relation to in-house pension schemes or externally to pension clients of the organisation. Neither role provides financial advice.

For both roles, apprenticeship training will give you a broad understanding of the structure of workplace pensions schemes and the different roles involved in running a scheme. You will learn the difference between providing information, guidance and advice and understand how your organisation’s business strategy, culture and role fit within the workplace pensions sector.

Workplace pensions administrator

Workplace pensions administrators play a critical role in managing the day-to-day operation of workplace pension schemes. As a workplace pensions administrator apprentice, you are likely to be involved in a variety of tasks supporting more senior administrators. These could include producing quotations and setting up benefits for members, maintaining workplace pension scheme cashbooks, reconciling bank statements, updating member records and responding to specific enquiries from members.

Workplace pensions consultants

Organisations of all shapes and sizes require specialist support when selecting and running workplace pension schemes and this is often provided by pensions consultants. The role can cover a variety of client support activities, including governance, strategy and management.

You will need good communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be expected to deliver an excellent level of customer service at all times. Although you will work as part of a team, you will be responsible for planning and managing your own workload so it will help if you are organised and methodical in your work.

It will take between 18 and 24 months to complete a workplace pensions administrator/consultant apprenticeship. Completion of the apprenticeship will form the foundation for a career in the sector and there are a range of qualifications available for further study up to degree level.
