In 2014 Job was selected from hundreds of TQ apprentices and was awarded Apprentice of the Year for not only his dedication to learning but also the support and encouragement he has given to colleagues.

“I currently work as a CCTV-based supervising security officer in the north of England,” Job explains. “The first qualification I studied was a Level 2 (Intermediate) Team Leading apprenticeship and I have now moved on to a Level 3 (Advanced) Customer Service apprenticeship.

“I left school in 1983, went to college and hadn’t really studied anything since then. What I liked about the apprenticeship is that it was all on-the-job learning. I never liked studying from books, so I enjoyed the online learning options and also time working with my assessor who gave me regular assignments relating to my job. Your assessor guides you all the way and there is no exam at the end – the work is assessed and the exams are embedded throughout the qualification.

“As part of my Level 2 Team Leading qualification I also studied functional skills in maths, English and ICT and I was recognised for producing some very useful IT applications which have since been implemented at work.

“I would encourage anyone considering an apprenticeship to go ahead. It has been a very positive experience for me and I think has made me a more rounded individual and professional employee. It has given me confidence in my abilities to write reports and spreadsheets and in my general team and customer skills. I am looking to continue to develop within my role at Kings Security Systems Ltd who have also given me great support throughout.”

Job’s enthusiasm, dedication and professionalism shone throughout his apprenticeship journey and he was the worthy winner of the TQ Apprentice of the Year award 2014.
