The right ingredients to learn

“Sussex Coast College Hastings had great reviews for apprenticeships, and as I had studied at the college before, I was aware of how good the teaching and the learning environment was at the college,” says Leigh.

“I love my apprenticeship as I am learning on the job and I am able to further my knowledge in the catering industry. I am also meeting new people in the same business and learning from them.

“I plan to travel the world and experience new food cultures and to carry on learning more about catering.”

Paul Webbe, restaurateur at Webbes and The Wild Mushroom, spoke about the benefits of having an apprentice: “Having an apprentice allows us to develop the skills of an individual, which then directly benefits our business. We can offer opportunities to local people who have a genuine interest in the area they live in.

“We find that if we invest our time and knowledge, we are rewarded with a loyal and enthusiastic member of the team, who is eager to learn and further their career in our industry.

“It provides us with the chance to make a connection with local colleges and other professionals, which then, in turn, helps us with future recruitment and training.

“We have found working with the Sussex Coast College apprenticeship team to be a positive experience, and would recommend the apprentice programme to any business that is considering this as an option.”
