Supporting teaching and learning in physical education and school sport apprenticeship

The Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education and School Sport apprenticeship is for anyone who wants to work with children, coordinating and delivering school sport, and motivating children to perform to the very best of their abilities.

With England currently the fifth most unhealthy country in the world, and almost one-quarter of children overweight at the time they start primary school, the provision of physical education is a top priority for today’s Government and a key component of the curriculum for all schools.

On this apprenticeship you will gain the skills needed to plan, deliver, assess and evaluate out-of-school activities, lunchtime and playtime activities and curriculum PE/physical activity, in partnership with school sports leaders. You will also assist with curriculum support and help manage the OFSTED early years setting.

As well as learning how to deliver physical activity sessions in a range of environments, as an apprentice you will learn how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people in their environment. You will also gain important skills in communicating and forming professional relationships with children, young people and adults, and in how to organise sports events and competitions. You will need to have a positive, motivating, ‘can do’ attitude and be willing to work both as part of a team or on your own.

Completion of this apprenticeship will lead to opportunities to work as a physical education and school sport professional, for example as a teaching assistant, sports coach, sports development officer, sports volunteer or sports leader.

You may be required to undergo police checks when working with vulnerable adults and children.
