Ministry of Defence – DE&S: James

James is a 24-year-old business apprentice at the Ministry of Defence – Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S)

The DE&S business administrator apprenticeship supports individuals with a blend of face-to-face, virtual tuition and e-learning to support the attainment of an NVQ level 3 in business administration.

James said: “I joined DE&S as an apprentice after I was given some careers advice at my workplace. I relished the opportunity to work in such an inspiring place at a young age without university experience. As one would expect, there are high demands with both the job and the learning, but being able to balance these demonstrates immense capability and the support from colleagues around you will ensure that you will be able to flourish.”

“The wide range of ongoing projects at DE&S allow me to gain experience and develop skills in a variety of different placements. Coupled with the qualifications I’ll gain, I am on a platform to develop, advance and succeed that is unparalleled.”

“DE&S is an organisation that takes its responsibilities very seriously and has pride in its commitment to diversity and equality meaning that they were more than happy to accommodate the reasonable adjustments I require. They have gone above and beyond to ensure a level playing field for me in which to thrive. It’s hard to think of a business or organisation that has such a commitment to its workforce and I am incredibly thankful that I’m able to be the recipient of such care and commitment.”
