DLG: Connor Allotey

Connor Allotey is a motor claims resolution apprentice at Direct Line Group (DLG)

What does your job entail?

“Looking after our customers each day, taking calls and resolving any issues they may have. I also investigate claims and liability between parties to make any decisions needed. I also liaise with numerous departments to update or resolve any issues for the customer.”

Why an apprenticeship and not university?

“I chose an apprenticeship over university because I did not want to have to worry about student debts that I may face because of going to university. Choosing an apprenticeship meant I could gain on the job training and work experience with the prospect of securing a permanent role at the end of my apprenticeship. An apprenticeship gives me financial security as well as a head start on my career.”

What is the biggest thing you are gaining by doing an apprenticeship?

“I would say the biggest thing I am gaining is on the job experience, as well as being able to gain a vast amount of knowledge and career development.”

What is the best thing about an apprenticeship in DLG?

“The best thing about DLG is the people within the company. They are all friendly and easy to get along with. They are all really welcoming when you go up to the department and will always offer their time and knowledge for you.”

“The working environment is comfortable and relaxed, and everyone takes the time to get to know you, so it really is easy to fit in here.”

What advice would you give to someone applying for an apprenticeship at DLG?

“Do not be afraid of not knowing anything and don’t feel judged. Give it your all.”
