Direct Line Group: Sam Robertson

HR apprentice Sam Robertson, 18, enjoys the friendly environment and fantastic facilities at Direct Line Group

“This is a great environment to work in,” Sam said. “My colleagues are really friendly and the workplace is excellent.”

Sam had a good feeling about Direct Line Group (DLG) from the start. “Even the interview process was friendly and relaxed,” he said.

Now that he’s settled in, Sam relishes the responsibilities that come with his apprenticeship. “There’s plenty of work to do, so I’m always kept busy.”

So what’s Sam’s biggest achievement so far as an apprentice?

“Coordinating the apprenticeship scheme for DLG’s Accident and Repair Centres. I had to liaise with hiring managers across the country, and make sure the process for candidates joining the company was smooth.”

It’s an achievement that’s sure to help Sam’s CV stand out. “The career prospects at DLG are good. It’s very prestigious to be at a FTSE 100 company. And I’m being supported to gain my CIPD qualification. I’m looking forward to what comes next.”

If you’re thinking about applying for a DLG apprenticeship, here are Sam’s top tips: “Research the DLG values, prepare for questions using the STAR method (situation, task, activity, result) and practise your answers.”
