Capel Manor College: Francesco

Capel Manor College: Francesco

Francesco’s horticulture apprenticeship with Capel Manor College marked the beginning of a career move into horticulture

Formerly an architect, Francesco was driven by a longstanding passion for growing plants and a desire to learn more about the environmental aspects of horticulture.

When Capel Manor College partnered with The Game Fair to design and create the world’s largest show garden, Francesco was part of the team that helped bring this design to life.

Spanning over an acre and with various areas designed by a different college student or apprentice, The Game Fair Gardens were divided into sections to demonstrate the diversity and possibilities within the countryside. Francesco and the rest of the apprentices’ team designed a potager garden area to show visitors how joyful growing your own food can be.

Francesco went on to complete the RHS level 2 certificate in the principles of plant growth, propagation and development, forming a deeper understanding of the active role gardens can play in promoting conservation. His ambition is to develop a career in conservation horticulture and international conservation programmes.
