AstraZeneca: Isobelle Derrig

Isobelle Derrig, 23, specialises in digital and technology solutions at AstraZeneca

How long have you worked for AstraZeneca?

“I’ve been at AstraZeneca for five years, during which I’ve had multiple rotations. In my last rotation I secured a permanent role as a user experience researcher within commercial IT.”

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

“An apprenticeship is a great opportunity for work experience and degree-level study at the same time. To help and provide patients their care through digital solutions was another reason I chose to do my apprenticeship. Most people think of science rather than technology when developing new medicines, however, technology is a key component for innovation and competitive advantage.”

How would you describe the culture at AstraZeneca?

“It is a great place to work. The company prides itself on inclusion and diversity, and communication and development. Working with colleagues across the globe has been a highlight, which I believe makes people more inquisitive and opens your eyes to different cultures.”

What would you say has been the most interesting/rewarding project you have been involved in and why?

“I’ve worked on a clinical trial app using user experience researchers. This involved visiting hospitals to understand the current experience for cancer patients and mapping out the clinical trial journey. This has been one of the most rewarding projects during my time here. I’m humbled by the opportunity to speak to patients and it highlights how we can affect patients’ lives from a digital perspective.”
