Never a dull moment in surveying

Laura Pell is a Property Surveying apprentice with Cushman & Wakefield. Once qualified, she will receive a qualification accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

“From watching Homes Under the Hammer to the renovation of my family home, property has always been something that has interested me,” says Laura. “I investigated a number of different careers, and training as a surveyor seemed perfect.

“I attended a grammar school and achieved four A-levels. While studying for my exams, I wanted to gain a higher qualification but felt I wouldn’t suit a university environment. I found out about a surveying apprenticeship and thought it sounded amazing to have practical experience as well as an opportunity to learn.

“I currently work for a global commercial property firm that employs a range of surveyors across all sectors. My role is helping the team acquire and dispose of properties as well as investigate potential clients.

My role changes from day to day as jobs progress from start to finish – whether it be viewing properties with clients, issuing requests and negotiating lease terms, there is never a dull moment in surveying.

“To anyone considering a career as a surveyor, the opportunities are truly endless. Surveying is hugely varied, so I’d advise you to look into what type of surveying interests you and then go for it!”
