Refrigeration and air conditioning apprenticeship

Refrigeration and air conditioning apprenticeship

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning apprenticeship covers a wide range of skills and occupations within the air conditioning and refrigeration industry.

From keeping us warm at the cinema to keeping blood at the right temperature for lifesaving operations, air conditioning and refrigeration are fundamental to our lives.

This is a broad industry with many occupations available to apprentices. On the Refrigeration pathway you would learn to complete the installation, assembly, fitting, testing and decommissioning of refrigeration systems. As a refrigeration engineer you could find yourself working in many different places, from rooftops to supermarkets and construction sites. The Air Conditioning pathway on the other hand covers installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and heat pump systems. Your job as an air conditioning engineer could see you working at swimming pools, hotels and offices.

Your work might include surveying potential installation sites; planning the layout of pipework, ducts and control panels; and fitting components. Or you could train as a service and maintenance engineer, fixing any problems.

The refrigeration and air conditioning industry takes its responsibility to the environment seriously so you’ll learn to work with this in mind, and health and safety is also of key importance.

On the Advanced Level apprenticeship, your skills base will broaden to include working with industrial systems in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries.
