Positive Outcomes

Mixing experience with transferable qualifications and being paid to learn

Amy Jeffreys is a 19-year-old apprentice, currently studying a Level 2 qualification in hospitality at Grasmere Court guesthouse in Keynsham, Somerset.

Amy had initially been working at Grasmere Court part time while still at school, but, with the end of school looming, she considered her options and decided that an apprenticeship was the route that appealed most.

Initially, Amy embarked on a customer service apprenticeship at another workplace, but quickly realised that hospitality was the career that really struck a chord with her. Looking at her options, and after her discussion with her Positive Outcomes training advisor, she found it was possible to transfer her apprenticeship to a hospitality qualification.

Knowing the business well, and with Grasmere Court having been such an enjoyable workplace, Amy couldn’t think of a better location. She says: “Grasmere Court is a great place to work. Everyone is really supportive and I really enjoy the variety of tasks that I undertake on a day-to-day basis – be it checking in guests, dealing with complaints and enquiries, organising breakfast, handling banking – there’s a real mix, with no two days the same.”

Amy is supported in her role by Positive Outcomes, which helped her make the transition in her apprenticeship qualification, and set her up at Grasmere Court, as well as offering ongoing support and paying regular visits to check on her progress.

Amy says of her apprenticeship: “I absolutely love being paid to learn. Mixing experience with transferable qualifications sets me on a great career path. I’d certainly recommend the apprenticeship to anyone.”
