Learning all areas of the business – from purchase orders to budgets

Shanice Day, 19, studied for a Level 3 Accounting apprenticeship with NWHC while working at Aut-Tech Automation, a German design firm whose UK hub is located in Coventry

Shanice comes from Nuneaton and originally started studying a hairdressing apprenticeship but decided it wasn’t the career path for her. She switched to a Business Administration apprenticeship instead and then progressed to a Level 3 Accounting apprenticeship.

Shanice is following in her Mum’s footsteps, who also completed an accounting course at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College.

When asked about her apprenticeship, Shanice says: “I don’t feel that if I had gone to university I would be any further in my career; if anything, I feel like I’m more qualified as I’ve built up life skills while working. An Apprenticeship was the logical route for me and the money is a bonus!

“I really like working as part of a small team, I’ve made some great friends and I get to be involved in different areas of the business so I enjoy the variety.

“I enjoy going to work every day and learning all areas of the business – from purchase orders through to budgets. The apprenticeship is a lot more involved than I thought it would be. I’m always busy.

“I also enjoy going into college once a week; the course is hard work and involves lots of concentration but it’s worth it!”
