Nail services apprenticeship

Nail services apprenticeship

The Nail Services apprenticeship covers a range of creative skills used in nail services, such as manicures and pedicures, applying polish, nail art and nail repairs.

The Nail Services apprenticeship is available at two levels and will lead to job roles such as junior or express nail technician and nail technician. Typical places of work are a beauty salon, nail bar or spa, or with an independent specialist working as a session and photographic nail artist.

On the Intermediate Level apprenticeship, you’ll provide a limited range of services to clients as well as assisting and supporting more senior nail technicians in more advanced nail services. You’ll carry out a range of tasks including manicures and pedicures, gel polish, basic nail art, nail repairs and natural nail enhancements.

On the Advanced Level apprenticeship, you’ll have the opportunity to develop specialist skills in creative nail work by planning, designing and creating images for nail art – you may even get involved with photoshoots or competitions. You’ll provide a wide range of services to clients, including nail enhancements using liquid and powder, wraps and light-cured gel; airbrushing; creative nail designs; and hand and nail treatments.

Working as a nail technician requires social skills as well as technical ones – you’ll need to enjoy working with people in addition to managing appointments, creating new designs, and following strict health and safety procedures.

This career offers opportunities to progress into salon management or sales and marketing for product companies.
