Live event technicians prepare and set-up technical equipment for concerts, festivals, theatrical performances, exhibitions, conferences, product launches and showcases. Ultimately specialising in sound, lighting or video, you’ll carry out routine and one-off technical preparation and set-up of equipment for events. You’ll develop knowledge of the equipment used and the skills needed to store, pick, maintain, transport and build components into a functioning system as well as operate these systems. You’ll be part of the team that turns a venue into a functioning event environment before returning the site to its original state, often within a short timeframe. Outside of the event environment, you’ll be responsible for the control, servicing, repair and storage of complex technical equipment.

Duration: 30 months

Relevant school subjects: Music and drama

Entry requirements: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £25,000 per annum
