Leisure operations and management apprenticeship

Leisure operations and management apprenticeship

Places with leisure and recreation facilities range from leisure and recreation centres to caravan and holiday parks. From swimming pools to sports halls, ice rinks to dry ski runs, this is a great area to work in if you are interested in both sport and business.

On the Intermediate Level Leisure Operations and Management apprenticeship you might work in a role where you are responsible for operating and maintaining equipment and facilities – for example, ensuring the cleanliness of the building, undertaking regular checks to ensure that standards of safety, environmental control and hygiene are being maintained, or maintaining grounds and outdoor spaces. Alternatively you might work in a more customer-facing role, for example as a receptionist. You will need to have a positive, ‘can do’ attitude and be willing to work as part of a team and on your own. You might need to work shifts, and sometimes unsociable hours. In holiday and caravan parks the work might be seasonal.

As a leisure centre manager you would be responsible for the day-to-day running of the leisure facility, managing staff, facilities and/or services. Your job could involve planning staff timetables, organising events and marketing material, recruiting staff, keeping up with health and safety regulations and promoting the centre in the local community. Good managers have excellent organisational skills and are able to keep calm under pressure. You will need strong leadership skills to run a healthy business.
