ICAEW

ICAEWThe Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) is a professional membership organisation that promotes, supports and regulates more than 147,000 ICAEW Chartered Accountants around the world.

Chartered accountants are the people who tackle the most important challenges in business. They use their skills and experience to help companies improve their performance, solve their financial problems and drive their future plans. Because of the knowledge, skills and experience they develop through their chartered accountancy training, ICAEW Chartered Accountants are trusted, respected and always in demand.

ICAEW apprenticeships

ICAEW apprenticeships are a great way to start working in the accountancy, finance and business sector, while studying towards a qualification and gaining practical skills. You will develop all the knowledge, skills and behaviours that employers are looking for and it could also be your route to qualifying as a chartered accountant.

We currently offer a level 4 and a level 7 apprenticeship in accountancy, and which one you choose depends on your end goal and your employer.

Level 4: Accounting technician apprenticeship

  • Study for the ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (ICAEW CFAB)
  • Equivalent to the first level of the ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification, the ACA, and the first year of a bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 12 months to complete

Level 7: Accountancy professional apprenticeship

  • Study for the ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification, the ACA
  • Equivalent to a master’s degree
  • Typically 36 to 48 months to complete, depending on prior experience

Some of our students have ended up analysing the finances of fashion brands, advising charities on tax, shaping schools’ spending, and working on the boards of multinational consumer companies.

Whether you’ve just finished school or university, this route into the accountancy profession is open to you. Each employer will have their own entry requirements, but you’ll need a grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English.
