Hospitality management apprenticeship

Hospitality management apprenticeship

The Higher Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management has been developed to provide a career route into management, for those working within the hospitality sector.

Staff who have the opportunity to move into higher level jobs are likely to be more motivated and to remain within a business, which, in turn, can help the business to increase its productivity and remain profitable.

As a Higher Level apprentice you might work in any one of a number of roles across many different establishments, from hotels and restaurants to backpacker hostels or self-catering accommodation. You could find yourself working for a large chain or a small, independent business.

Deputy general managers support the general manager in running the business. Their responsibilities include developing plans for improved service and financial performance, influencing and improving food service, monitoring day-to-day management and assessing departments.

Front office managers have regular contact with the guests, welcoming and registering arrivals, answering queries, taking bookings, preparing bills and taking payments. They liaise closely with the housekeeping department and encourage guests to use the facilities available to them.

Operations managers ensure the effective day-to-day management of all operational aspects of the business, ensuring that effective customer service is provided, maximising profits and improving customer satisfaction. They are also responsible for the management of on-site maintenance.

Finally, unit managers lead, manage and develop staff to achieve their set objectives. They lead the relationship with the client and continually review the service standards and food offered at the unit.

All roles require some level of experience of working at a supervisory level. You will also need to have excellent customer service skills to help provide a welcoming and pleasant experience for customers.
