The Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to enable systems and equipment to operate safely, efficiently and in an environmentally sustainable way, meeting the requirements set out by your employer. You will have a fundamental knowledge of engineering/science principles and practices relevant to the nuclear industry and will be able to demonstrate skills relevant to your job role – these will typically include design, plant performance enhancements, operational management, project management and maintenance of safety standards utilising. You will use analytical thinking to provide innovative solutions and develop good communication and team skills.
Entry requirements vary but employers will generally expect you to have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English, maths and a science subject, plus a minimum of 240 UCAS points or existing relevant Level 3 qualifications.
On completion of this apprenticeship, you will hold a Bachelors (honours) degree qualification (at Level 6), accredited by the constituent bodies of the Engineering/Science Council. You will also be eligible to apply for professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Registered Scientist (RSci) and membership of a professional institute. The apprenticeship will typically take between three and five years to complete.
