HIGHER APPRENTICESHIPChartered Legal Executives provide legal services to internal and external clients. They make decisions on legal matters based on legal principles or the rule of law and within all legal and regulatory requirements. Chartered Legal Executives negotiate on behalf of their clients, and represent clients in informal and formal proceedings
As an apprentice chartered legal executive you will carry out activities that include taking client instructions; managing client matters; communicating, both orally and in writing, with internal and external clients; drafting and reviewing legal documents; and carrying out legal research.
Legal professionals handle confidential and sensitive information on a daily basis so honesty and integrity are a must. You will need to have excellent communication skills as you will be required to give succinct and practical legal advice to clients in terms that they can easily understand. You will also need a high standard of literacy and numeracy to enable you to carry out research, produce documentation, understand and interpret data given in reports, and manage and apply financial information.
There are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship but it is recommended that students have a minimum of four GCSEs at grades C or above (including English) or equivalent qualifications.
To complete the apprenticeship, the following Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) qualifications need to be achieved (holders of qualifications, such as a law degree, may be eligible for exemptions):
- CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice
- CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice.
This is a Level 6 apprenticeship and will take approximately five years to complete. Apprentices must complete Level 3 learning before progressing onto the Level 6 qualification to achieve full competency.
