Financial services administrator apprenticeship

The financial advice market consists of around 19,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that provide financial advice and mortgage advice.

These SMEs are supported by organisations known as networks that provide a range of support services to the individual businesses – including technology, compliance, technical and consultancy support. Due to recent changes, more administrative support is required by firms to enable them to provide an efficient, high-quality and compliant service to their clients.

As a financial services administrator apprentice, you will probably find yourself providing general office administrative support, including filing and photocopying, handling the post, processing payments, answering the telephone and taking messages. You may be required to use customer management systems to maintain records and ensure that customer files are complete in accordance with procedures.

Through your apprenticeship, you will gain a broad understanding of the structure of the financial services market, including the role of the financial adviser. You will learn about the financial services regulatory framework, and the ethics and key principles of the advice process. You will get to grips with the products, systems and processes used within the industry to deliver the required outcomes.

You role is to deliver an excellent level of service to customers and colleagues alike, and for this you will need to have good written and verbal skills. Most employers will expect you to have a Level 2 maths qualification, ideally gained as part of five GCSEs, grades A–C.

The financial administrator apprenticeship is an entry-level role which provides the foundation knowledge, skills and experience for progression into a number of career paths, including senior administrator, paraplanner, financial adviser or mortgage adviser.
