Embedded electronic systems design and development engineers design and develop the electronics within a range of devices, from smartphones to navigations systems in aircraft. You’ll be able to undertake this apprenticeship across a range of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, robotics, telecoms and consumer electronics, as you develop the engineer’s knowledge of electronics and its principles, and an expertise in the end use of the final product. Successful apprentices will spend their careers in these sectors, developing the next generation of products such as smartphones, electric vehicles, communications satellites and smart grids. You’ll need to be proficient in a range of skills, underpinned by academic understanding, to be able to work across these sub-sectors and specialisms. On completion, you’ll achieve a degree in electronics or electrical and electronic engineering.

Duration: 36 months

Relevant school subjects: Science, ICT and DT

Entry requirements: A-levels in maths and at least one STEM subject, and a GCSE in English language

Achievement upon completion: Level 6 (Degree)—equivalent to a bachelor’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £35,000 per annum
