Broadcast production assistant apprenticeship

A broadcast production assistant provides support and assistance to editorial or technical colleagues to ensure the smooth delivery of content for TV or radio programmes.

These productions may cover different genres including factual, daytime, light entertainment, drama, comedy, documentary and current affairs.

As an apprentice broadcast production assistant you will work as part of a production team building your understanding of the TV and radio industry as you move across production teams. You may be involved in developing programme ideas, supporting the pitching of these new ideas and working as part of a production team to develop and deliver these.

You will need to be adaptable and able to learn quickly on the job, as your role could include anything from planning projects or events, to managing guests, and obtaining and managing resources, including finance. You may also be required to assist production colleagues in technical support and operational areas such as camera, lighting, sound and editing.

For the commercial and independent TV and radio sectors, your tasks could also include developing branding, promotions or commercials and working with marketers.
Completion of a Broadcast Production Assistant apprenticeship could lead to opportunities to progress into creative, production management or editing roles within TV or radio.
