Apprenticeship has taught me life and technical skills

Working in a Fiat dealership has given Joseph the opportunity to learn a trade and prepare for his working life ahead

Joseph Devey is a Service Technician apprentice from Guest Fiat in Willinghall, part of the Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) group.

Joseph goes on block release to Babcock (FCA’s training partner) to learn, practise and apply his knowledge. Back at his workplace, he is supported by a mentor, and, as his skills have developed, he has been given more responsibility and a greater variety of work.

“This apprenticeship has been great,” says Joseph. “I’ve learnt about the trade and been given the skills I need. It’s given me more of an idea of where I want to go in life.”

Joseph has excelled in his apprenticeship and was chosen by his vocational learning advisor to represent FCA Group and take part in the Babcock Automotive Apprentice of the Year competition in 2016. He outshone the other competitors with his knowledge and positive attitude, and was crowned the Babcock Service Technician Apprentice of the Year.

Joseph says: “I’ve really enjoyed my apprenticeship and it’s taught me more than just the technical skills I need, it’s taught me life skills as well. I’d recommend the apprenticeship programme to anyone.”
