Asquith Apprenticeship Academy

Leyla Salici, aged 22, works as a nursery apprentice for Asquith Apprenticeship Academy within their Wilmington Day Nursery near Dartford

Training is child’s play for Leyla

“I am currently studying towards a Childcare Level 2 apprenticeship in Children’s and Young People’s Workforce. I work full-time in the nursery, which includes study time while I’m at work and support from the training partner learndirect.

“Asquith is a large nursery chain, with more than 80 nurseries across the UK and I joined their Apprenticeship Academy this year. After looking at many other apprenticeships within childcare, I felt that Asquith offered young people a great opportunity to train and gain work experience. They also pay a really good apprentice wage and offer support from a mentor within the nursery and an apprenticeship coordinator.

“Within my apprenticeship, I also attend Asquith modules at the support office in Chesham, where I learn more about working with children and get a chance to chat with the other Asquith apprentices.

“Before I worked for Asquith I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted my career to go in, but now, with the support I receive, I have many ideas on where I would like to go.

“The best thing about my apprenticeship is that I have the opportunity to spend time with all different ages of children, from age 3 months to 5 years, and the days out they have planned for us sound really exciting. I’m especially looking forward to visiting Community Playthings, who build all of Asquith’s furniture and many of the toys.”
