At the forefront of change

Jonathan Edwards, 18, is studying for a Level 3 apprenticeship with Asda’s ISD (Information Systems Division) apprentice programme

Jonathan was midway through his A-levels when he decided he would rather start a career. When assessing his options, he had seen his peer group contemporaries climb the ladder at Asda and therefore knew what was possible. With both parents working for larger organisations, he had also witnessed first-hand the career development opportunities large companies can offer.

Jonathan says: “It was Asda’s key culture principles that really stood out for me when applying, namely, to respect the individual, strive for excellence and give great service to customers.

“I am currently working in the ISD major incident and problem management team. My role differs from day to day, from managing incidents across the Asda House internal network, to mitigating operational risk to business and customer services. I really enjoy looking at how the latest tech and IT developments can be deployed to help improve customer service and help Asda stay ahead of the competition.

“Anyone interested in IT or technology should definitely consider a career in the retail sector. It’s a sector that is evolving through technology and it’s great to be at the forefront of this change.”

While on the apprentice programme, Jonathan will be able to gain an industry-recognised ITIL-certified qualification for IT service management. He hopes to go on to take a Level 4 apprenticeship and is looking to become an IT project manager. He believes Asda’s programme is the best way to get him there.
